What You'll Learn

This course prepares all learners to take the Certified Passivhaus Tradesperson exam, covering essential concepts, calculations and practice questions. We cover essential concepts, calculations and practice questions as well as give you full support with registration for the exam.

Understand what is different in Passivhaus to business as usual. Our experienced industry-based trainers will guide you through the core concepts of Passivhaus construction in our Building to Perform: Passivhaus for Contractors modules, using a range of real world case studies, covering topics including the importance of sequencing, tolerances, material selection and airtightness. You also get the opportunity to check your knowledge by completing an additional revision session and online exam to gain the Certified Passivhaus Tradesperson accreditation.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Understand the Passivhaus standard and how it is crucial for achieving high building performance.
  • Explore how airtightness, insulation, thermal bridging and glazing affect performance, and why material specification matters.
  • Understand what's essential for achieving airtight construction in practice, including planning and sequencing.
  • Assess the impact of construction choices, considering multiple construction methods and what good detailing looks like.
  • Explore critical building services for Passivhaus, including ventilation, heating and hot water.
  • Identify potential issues on site and develop appropriate solutions to solve them.
  • Understand what’s involved in Passivhaus certification, what your responsibilities are and how to collaborate effectively on projects to deliver a quality low-energy build.
  • Prepare for the Certified Tradesperson exam with tailored revision and support.

There are no prerequisites. The training is aimed at construction professionals working at a supervisory level.

Yes, all our session are recorded but we only offer access to these recordings upon request.

In our experience, the best outcomes happen when you attend all live sessions, however, in exceptional circumstances, with advance notice, we will be happy to provide a recording – please get in touch with your course manager.

Our terms and conditions state cancellations will be refunded at the following rates:

  • More than 3 weeks before the course: full refund;
  • Less than 3 weeks before the course: 50% refund;
  • Less than 3 days before the course: no refund available.

If you wish to defer, you must give at least 7 days notice and can defer once free of charge, subsequent deferrals may incur a £50 admin fee. Participant substitutions for courses can be made at any time but the person taking the exam must have completed the whole course.

Yes, you must have your own individual copy of the PHPP software, required to register for the designer exam. PHPP10 software costs from £170 and can be purchased directly from the AECB.

Yes, all 3 session are compulsory to complete the course.

We offer 10% discount on groups of 3 or more on our Certified Passivhaus Designer course.

No. The exam is optional.

You will need a laptop with a working headset and camera to attend our online sessions. You will be given a zoom link and joining instructions when you register for the course.

Our course is supported by EBS, suppliers of Passivhaus-approved tapes and membranes. EBS send a complimentary sample pack to each of our Certified Tradesperson and Designer course participants.
