Certified Passivhaus Tradesperson Course
Senior Designer, Q9 Cladding Solutions LTD
The course provided a thorough understanding of the principles behind Passive House design, including energy efficiency, airtightness, and thermal comfort, while also offering hands-on tools and techniques to apply these concepts in real-world projects. I particularly appreciated the in-depth discussions on the importance of building performance data. The instructor's expertise and passion for sustainability were also inspiring, and I left the course with a clearer vision of how to implement these principles in future design work. Overall, it was an incredibly valuable experience that enhanced both my technical knowledge and my commitment to sustainable building practices.
The most useful thing I learned in the Passive House course was the critical importance of airtightness and the role of cladding details in ensuring optimal energy efficiency. For example, we explored how even small gaps in the building envelope, especially around cladding, can lead to heat loss and air leakage, undermining the performance of the entire building. I now understand that properly detailing cladding systems—such as ensuring continuous insulation, correctly sealing joints, and integrating wind barriers—is essential to prevent thermal bridging and maintain airtightness.
This Passive House course has been incredibly beneficial in advancing both my technical skills and my career in sustainable building design. One of the most significant benefits has been my ability to confidently apply the principles of energy efficiency, airtightness, and detailed external envelope cladding to real-world projects. The course has provided me with the tools to not only contribute technically but also to engage in meaningful discussions with clients and colleagues about sustainable design solutions.
