Session 4/13 - Thursday 20th March 2025 (13:05 - 13:55)
Join us to hear from Alan Clark as he talks through part 1 of 2 on the building fabric interventions on Carlton Chapel house. A bold overhaul of a run-down 1980s concrete social housing block has improved the lives of its residents and contributed to positive climate action. The lessons learnt from this challenging EnerPHit could provide a blueprint for upgrading swathes of similar properties.

Session 6/13 - Thursday 3rd April 2025(13:05 to 13:55)
Join us to hear from Sarah Lewis, Research and Policy Director at the UK Passivhaus Trust, shares her personal journey of retrofitting her 1950s home in Scotland—achieving a 90% reduction in space heating demand and dramatically improving indoor air quality. Session 7/13 - Thursday 10th April 2025(13:05 to 13:55)
Join us to hear from Gwilym Still about the Lucy Cavendish College mixed-use project, set in West Cambridge's historic conservation area, combining student accommodation, social spaces and a café. To meet the College's ambitious near zero carbon future-proofing visions for the future, an ultra low energy (& carbon) design was crucial. To minimise the embodied carbon within the building, the primary structural design utilises CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) with hand-made tile hung façade and lime mortar brickwork and low embodied carbon cement replacements. The CLT primary structure also forms the airtightness line, with taped panel joints and robust detailing achieving a final air test result of 0.3 ACH, well within the Passivhaus target of 0.6 ACH.

Session 8/13 - Thursday 17th April 2025(13:05 to 13:55)
Join us to hear from Kirsty Maguire about The Seed, set on a site surrounded by mature trees, this is a shared home for 2 families. Keen to avoid concrete, the home is timber-rich from structure, through to insulation and cladding, and use steel screw pile foundations. Seed is also designed to be deconstructed at end of life and elements reused.

Session 9/13 - Thursday 24th April 2025(13:05 to 13:55)
Join us to hear from Will South about the SAP3 Project at the University of the West of England (UWE) Frenchay campus formed of three six-storey blocks of student accommodation. At GIA 27,000m2 this is currently the largest development certified to the Passivhaus Building standard in the UK. Passivhaus was selected for the project as part of UWE's target to be Net Zero by 2030. Built using flat slab in-situ concrete frame with SFS lightweight steel wall infill, the airtightness line was designed to be located on the external face of the building structure. The project team have selected one single optimised window type for most of the 900 bedrooms, to work with every orientation, to balance heat loss, solar gains, natural ventilation, daylight, the views out, and buildability.
